Live Sports Betting and the NBA Surge
NBA Play Offers Surge in Points—Bet on It!
When you’re wagering on the NBA using live sports betting, you’ll be given a long string of bets with odds that constantly change with the score and the momentum of the game. Many times in an NBA contest, one of the team’s will have a point surge that will affect the over/under and the number of points each team will have.
These surges often happen at the end of the first half and when the game is in the balance in the second half. They can actually occur at any time. It can be difficult to gauge when they will happen. In this article, we’re going to focus on some tips for monitoring the surge and how to bet it.
Which Games to Play
Not all games will have a true surge. A surge occurs when one team puts in anywhere from five or more unanswered baskets. In some games this will occur numerous times. There are certain games where this is more likely to happen.
Games to monitor for the surge include:
- When one team is far outmatched by the other.
- When one team has three top three-point shooters.
- Fast, quick offense versus poor defense.
- Fast, quick home team versus road club that tired.
- Rival teams with both have three top players.
Basically, you’re looking for clubs that actually can put bunches of points on the board extremely quickly. They will have a top offensive and two other offensively minded guys who are almost his equal. It also helps if they have some defensive chops.
How to Monitor the Game
Any book that offers live sports betting will have a graphic display of the game. This will tell you the score and, depending on the sport, something about the game situation. This is not enough to monitor any part of a game for live betting and it’s certainly not enough to bet on a surge.
Some books offer actual live access to the game. This is better than the graphic illustration of the contest. But it is best if you can watch the game on the television. You’ll see actual game conditions, be able to feel and recognize shifts in momentum and be able to see how the coaches, fans and refs are reacting.
As an example, if the home team is down and they start to surge and it looks like they committed a foul but the ref does not call it and lets the play continue, that team will probably continue building momentum, but if the referee makes the call against the surging team and the other team goes to the foul line that may terminate the surge. You won’t get that from a graphic display.
How to Recognize the Surge
There are a few game occurrences that may indicate a surge is about to happen of is in process. These include:
- The money guy is taking all the shots and has turned hot.
- The other team is starting to slow down, allowing opponents to surge.
- The other team is playing sloppy and giving up offensive rebounds and turning the ball over. The opponent is taking advantage of this situation.
- The other team has gone cold from the floor. They can hit the rim but can’t out the ball through the hoop.
- The referees aren’t calling anything much to the dismay of the team that’s giving up the points.
- The coach of the team that is sagging is not calling a timeout and should.
Usually, there will be a combination of a few of these occurrences that will help facilitate a surge.
How to Monitor the Odds and Bet
Odds change quickly when live betting basketball. So keep your eye on them as soon as a team hits two straight. Place your bet sooner than later. In essence, you’ll be betting on either the total number of points at the end of a quarter, the half of the game.
Because the team that has started to surge probably has a low point total prior to the surge, you want to take advantage of the low total before the bookies up their total points, change the odds or alter both due to the surge. You’ll also get better odds the earlier you bet.
Keep Your Eye on the Game
For surge betting to work, you have to closely monitor the game and recognize the signs of the surge. If you do this, you can make some cash on a projected low point total by betting on it before anyone else realizes what’s happening.
