Hedging Your Regular Bets with Live Sports Betting

Should You Use Live Betting as Your Primary Platform?

Many gamblers are using live sports betting to hedge the bets they’ve made before the game started. This can be a useful tactic as long as bettors follow some basic principals. Here are the times to use live betting in order to take the sting off of possible loses.

Which Games?

We’re going with the theory that you’re using live betting in order to try to make up for some loses that you’re about to take. What games should you play? Do you try to make some money on a game that you’re losing or do you go with a contest on which you did not wager?

Chances are you didn’t wager on a game for a specific reason as in you didn’t like the spread or the line. But that doesn’t mean that you should not make some live bets on that game. Why? Because those odds you did not like don’t really apply once the game starts. The main guidepost regarding your decision has to do with how well informed you are about the two teams and the game. If you have not properly analyzed the contest, then don’t wager on it unless you can quickly catch up.

You may also want to wager on games on which you are presently losing. The reason to do so has to do with the fact that you already possess in-depth knowledge of the matchup. Maybe you’re losing your wager because of an injury or the weather or some coaching decision or the other team finally showed up. Whatever the case may be, if you feel that you can adjust your perspective and exploit your knowledge then go for it.

Try to Break Even

Don’t try to break the bank. What you want to do is try to break even on your loses. It’s great if you can make a profit but if you’re going to do so by making wagers with impossibly high odds, then you’ll probably lose more.

Small Units

In an attempt to break even, wager using one or two units. It’s better to make more bets in smaller amounts than fewer bets that use large amounts of cash. Throwing 10 units on a live sports bet can instantly put you in a hole you just cannot get out.

Even Odds

Make bets with even or low odds such as 2-1 or even 1-2 or 1-3. You have a much better chance of winning a wager like that than one that pays 10-1 or 18-1. With live betting, you’ll be presented with many different bets and some will offer big payouts. Don’t be tempted by these difficult to win wagers. They can result in large losses. Play those bets when you’ve got some real money in your pocket.

Only Live Betting?

Should you forsake the traditional betting slip for live betting only? Some people are doing this. If you can control your wagering and not get caught up in the moment, live betting may be fine for you. But make sure you’re comfortable with it and able to make smart decisions. If you’re struggling with live betting, stick with the age-old betting slip until you figure it out.
